So whats your highlights for this years SNOWKITE SEASON

Postby Craz Z on Mon Apr 28, 2008 4:38 pm

Lets hear some war stories here. What was your highs for the year? For me Black Pine was a great new undiscovered place that a few of us were able to tryout the conditions were not perfect but there were a few days that really made that place special for me this year. I really loved the cornices and cliffs that developed and got some sweet riding in. As far as best snow for the year I was able to make to Island Park during a stellar week of dumping snow. I actually ended up having to stop kiting simply cause there was just too much snow!!! Overall a wonderful year so far in the pacific northwest. Lets hope the summer brings us some nice temps with some decent wind.
I love the wind and I love getting HIGH on air.

Well it’s almost coming to an end, another epic season of Montana snowkiting. Whenever this time of year comes around we like to sit back on those long no wind days and talk about the past season, the highs the lows and the in betweens. The most common saying this year was epic snow. Finally, we got a year filled with snow and wind. READ ON AT http://undergroundkitesports.com/montana_07_08

My high definately had to be getting in my first good (but short) session on frozen Oneida Lake with a few other kiters trying out Eclipse Kites!

Graduation is in a few weeks, which means money soon, which equals inflatables for the summer!

I got quite a bit of riding in over the winter but I would have to say my highlights were the jump at G-town and riding the machine on powder in Island Park. I made a lot of progress feeling comfortable this year; I rode faster, longer, harder, and more powered then last year and that got me stoked. I found the right kites and the right skis, next year I'll work on making the boots comfortable. For now I'm just stoked to get on the water.

As for NYKiter, I think it's a right of passage to squander your graduation money on kites. I know I did!

My highlights were the whole weekend at The Superfly Open in Utah, more specifically that Sunday, sun, wind, snow, ....MAGIC. Also the same day, zipping up a hill that used to be one I would have to hike for 5 minutes worth riding, then carving it up back down, while periodically "swinging" off the hill. Oh yea. Watching pros like Bjorn, Alex Peterson, Patrick Nedele, skying out, then getttin in the snowcat to go catch a plane and geting to converse with Alex for awhile. Also one day in the begining of May of at Haggin with prime conditions, tearing up the bowls and ridges. Finally, Georgetown lake, anyone who rode with me, knows I love the "Barbecue pit", downwind from the main launch, by the big sign. Other than the big steel box on a spear waiting to shank you or your kite, is such a sweet kicker for going to the right. Nailing my 360's, Making loops with Bob and Laurel on the kicker, leftover from the rodeo. Trecking around the lake wiht Dan and L-KiteA A.K.A Lisa kay, and generally tearing it up with Rhett, Cole, and everyone else. WOW! i kinda went off, but as previously mentioned, it has been a great year!! Wait, speaking of which, the forecast looks good for tomorow, and last post from Dr Hook said plenty of ice. I was thinking of makin the roadtrip out for tomorow!! Anyone else?? Or is it worth my drive still?
I like to stand as close to the edge as I can, because from there you can see all the things you cant from the center.

It's been an awesome winter in Northern Wyoming for my first year with kites. I bought my Best trainer in August and taught myself riding my skateboard on freshly paved subdivisions. The snow hit the high mountains in early November and I was fortunate to meet the Ozone distributers, Noah, Patrick and several others in the Bighorn Mountains. I bought my 10m Frenzy immediately... The next weekend I met Jake and Billy with Best kites. I did not kite with them because I was blown from the previous day but had a few drinks with them at the K-bar in Powell. When the high passes closed I spent a tremendous amount of time searching for the ideal "park and ride" and rippin across frozen reservoirs with very sharp skiis. All of the best kiting here requires AT gear (or snowmobile) and the willingness to hike. Exploring the Pryor Mountains with Noah and tagging the summit was a very cool day until Noah's bar snapped and he dropped like a rock...

With the Beartooth and Bighorn highways opening soon, my "winter" highlight may be coming soon. Drop me a line if you're headed this way.

My highlight is easy - seeings how I only went snowkiting once this season. Went to SnowDaze put on my Sol-Flyer. Got one day of kiting. It was definately a cool feeling - want to do it again. But will have to wait for next season.
Just Give me some wind!!

Feeling like I was finally catching on to this craziness :D . Which in-turn caused me to succombe to this kiting disease - not completely replacing my already brainblistering backcountry dimentia but providing a perfect alternative or compliment depending on the day. Highlights!!!! definitely the couple of days where I plucked a choice line in the backcountry & then came towards home to get in a couple of hours of great kiting. I'm not sure if its even legal to have that much fun!!!

Oh yeah & the dream perfect day with fstdude at his spot in the L. Belts & getting a great session in on the new Rebel. & hopefully the upcoming trip to Beartooth Pass
