honestly when starting, you want a versatile kite that you can use until you build up your arsenal of kites....I usually suggest a fifteen or thirteen as a snowkite for beginnners....Im not in the mood to explain why right now, but I think you should consider something in that range..May I suggest that 14 waroo that is for sale in the used gear section of this forum...Its a good kite, good relaunch, and plenty of depower......and you can trash it as its only a hundred dollar kite.......When you break that one and accumulate some skills, get something brand new for yourself....Where are you located lurking newbie?

Welcome Art. As far as snowkiting goes - I can't really recommend much on the type of kite. I'm a water guy (for now).

But getting a cheap kite you can trash is important - whether you are on the water on snow or land. You don't want to drop $1,500 plus on a sweet kite and then trash it after your 6th session or so.

Good luck man!!

Not to start a brand war here, but, my suggestion,07 13M waroo!!!! 1 yr experience under my belt. Just my 02 cents.
I like to stand as close to the edge as I can, because from there you can see all the things you cant from the center.

best kiteboarding has a used 13M bularoo for $350 (but the kite doesn't have a LE bladder). You can buy a LE bladder for $60 on the same website. $400 for a 07 13M bularoo is a sweet deal!! I would buy it - but my season is all but over.

The best way to find a good kite is to try a few out. If you have some friends that kite or know where the kiters hang out in your area, go down there and try some out. Thats the only way you will get a kite that fits your style and personality. ;)

Just my two cents.

instead of buying a 13 or 14m kite and crashing it, and get your a.. kicked off, and hurt your self, buy something smaller now, let's say 3m, fly it learn, feel the kite, you wont get hurt, then gradually go bigger and you'll find out that you 'll save a lot of money because you'll be able to resell your kites in good shape without losing too much money. Buy used, and resell. If you can afford, you'll keep them, as it's just fun to have smaller kites in the trunk to show friends.

Hey art welcome to the forum :D

You are on the right track for sure use the heck out of that little trainer. If possible hone in your figure 8's to the two sides of the wind window and you'll be just fine. I wouldn't mess with the smaller kites I noticed after a month flying in light winds with my 10meter that when the time came to get out on the snow anything smaller would have been just an annoying waste of time. If you want to continue static flying or ground boarding, Yes stay small work up. Otherwise on water or snow go right to the size you will be using every session then you can build your quiver without worrying about what to do with this small 5 meter. There are uses for them but you need some ridiculous skills to make them work effectively and the wind is usually over 30mph.

Get your self a anemometer and go out in no more than 15-19 mph with like a 12 inflateable, 10 foil, 13-14 bow (i think?)

Instructions are great for learning the features and safety of what to and not to do. But you can learn yourself as long as you realize the power of the wind and respect it. Don't push it fly light save the stronger winds for later.
I love the wind and I love getting HIGH on air.

Welcome, to the forum Lurking Newbie. I agree with everyone else try out several kites before you go and sink the big bucks on a new kite that might or might not be what you really want. If you can, make it a snow event where you try out different kites. Since everyone else is talking about kites and brands then I will add my two cents. Currently have a closeout deals on 07' Montana II kites. I also have several used kites at killer deals. < 500.00 for kite and bars. Good luck with your kiting and hope to see you up here in Montana for an event. Triple Threats' Dec. 8th and 9th event will be a good one.
