Another Montana kiteboarder

Postby Drew on Wed Nov 07, 2007 7:47 pm

Hello fellow kiteboarders! This is my first summer spending much time on the water. I suffererd through a couple few months of getting worked in gusty conditions but have figured it out now. I hope! With the unusually warm weather in the SW Montana region this fall, I am still on the water, as today I ventured to Buffalo Bill resivor near Cody, WY. The temp was 63 with gusty wind 25-35 mph. Damn nice for November! This sport is the most fun I've had since surfing - and no lineup. I have met a bunch of great people everywhere I kite and am looking forward to testing out my new found skills on the snow this winter. A big thanks to AJ for helping me get a kite that got me on the water more and to the Dailey Lake kiters who cracked the whip of motivation. Good times! Drew

Welcome to the forum Drew :D Have we met? you won't be dissappointed with snow but if we don't get any it could be a bummer. I have one day that I can't really count as a snowkiting day up in the gravellies. Hope to see you this year.
I love the wind and I love getting HIGH on air.

Thats it AJ I know you invited me there this summer but i'm going to say right now i'm coming with this summer so I hope you hold me to it. Cole and me try so hard at georgetown to get some good wind some days are good others not so good but i should have been focusing my attention on the windest place in montana and maybe the entire US. Livingston (this maybe a rumor) had windmills but had to be taken down cause the 100+mph winds made them inoperable. I know you can't kite in this enviroment but the tunnel that is in that valley is furosis.

One thing i do know for a fact about livingston is it has strong enough winds to knock semis off the road if you drive I-90 you can see the litter of campers and stuff in the pits. They made a special route for semis just to avoid such high winds.
I love the wind and I love getting HIGH on air.

One thing about Daily lake is this...A true carnival like Kiteboarding experience.
All the windsurfers and Kiteboarders get together. set up camp, claim some dirt as their own for the weekend, and just throw down. Everyone is so close, and knows each other by name, and the numbers have to be the highest of any Kite Scene in Montana. where else are you gonna go ride a lake with ten windsurfers and eight Kiters at once..... everyone should just come To Daily at least once Because it always blows, and you learn more by riding there. It will teach you so much about Kite control. Getting onplane on onshore winds....launch and land courtesys....and its freaking Beautiful there, and it is the windiest place on the planet. At least within an hours drive From Bozeman!

A big welcome to another northwesterner!! And props to Aj for adding what he has to the northwest scene, yea thats rigth the northwest scene, not just montana. Look at my screename. So I might be a little behind the game here but I didnt realize Dailey lake was going off. Im so there in the spring!! Have to split my time between there and the gorge!!
I like to stand as close to the edge as I can, because from there you can see all the things you cant from the center.
