Experience with Freak Dog Kites?

Postby NYKiter on Sun Feb 24, 2008 11:03 am

Just sold my Fuel but I am always looking at kites, especially because I will be graduating in a few months and would love to get out on the water this summer.

Anyone have experience with Freak Dog (EH) kites? I have heard that they make good power, even the smaller sizes, and since I am a heavy guy (220 lbs) that is what I am looking for.

Considering either a 15m vicious or 13m EZE. I live in a light wind area and would love to have one kite and two boards to choose from.

Thanks!

No I haven't had the pleasure of trying one. They look nice and they look cheap. Whats the price on one? I like the SLE and bow style they've focused on. Let us know if you get on one.
I love the wind and I love getting HIGH on air.

You can get an EZE, 11 or 13m complete for $1200. The Vicious are $850 complete.

That seems kinda steep for what I saw in the pictures. This looks very very comparable to the best kites. I think the pricing should be a bit lower like in the 500-1000$ range. The chicken loop leader looks pretty small in diameter. I guess the kite it self looks like the same quality as others but need a closer look at materials and stiching. Overall without trying it i'd only be skeptical of their bar setup only an assumption based on the pics on their website.

I recall hearing somewhere that Freak Dog kites were the US distributed version of EH kites.

On this topic too, although I'm not considering buying one, has anyone heard anything about Pink Kites (http://www.pinkkites.com/). Both Freak Dog and Pink kites look significantly higher aspect than anything I've ever seen. The pink kites say they are Bruno's new "ultra flat" patent, wondering if Freak Dog are similar?

This Statement by Craz z Bothers me...."That seems kinda steep for what I saw in the pictures. This looks very very comparable to the best kites".........you should only offer advice on things with which you are knowledgable about, and especially dont compare something that you know nothing about, to another product with which you know nothing about.

Just wanted to say that Best Kiteboarding is making The Highest Quality Kite possible for the money that you spend. In fact, the 2008 are getting less expensive. And The Quality is very high. I usually fly my Best Kites for about two years and then swap them out. They are always in great shape, and I like to think that Im out there in the winter spring summer and fall using my kites as much or more than anyone in this state.

I dont appreciate references to Best as the start of the low end, especially when the people referencing them have never flown them at all. Im willing to bet that the Waroo and Bularoo are the most widely used lei in Montana and the entire world.......Period!

Just trying to keep it fair. Best Kiteboarding is making awesome products, and if you still think they are a generic kite and are putting them in the class with Freak Dog, you need to step out of the dark ages.

Ok well first off i'm not putting best down. Fact is Best has some of the lowest prices for new kites in the industry. Therefore you may use that for a gauge. Quality is a term that is loosley thrown around and as long as it does what you want without incident then its considered good quality? Sorry i'm not very knowledgeable about best only been on one once. If you compare the pictures presented by freak dog You can clearly see that the kite from bar to kite looks very close.

This thread is why uskiteforum started to keep brand wars out they get no one any where I wasn't in any way trying to say best is inferior and obviously you feel strongly about the brand you stand behind thats fine. I apologize if I sounded misleading that wasn't the point the point was a new company trying to enter the market that has no brand recognition shouldn't price so close to the "cheapest" brand with notarity which is BEST and from a picture point of view thats what freak dog kites look like.

Best is the only company trying to bring down the high cost of kiting that is a good thing for us kiters. They know what they're doing the farther the cost goes down the higher the demand goes up hopefully penetrating new markets. Best markets CHEAP kites why do you think everyone is buying them?

Take it easy and grab a

Just to clarify, I wasnt throwing brand names out on the forum. I dont know what your implying when you say cheap?

Do you mean less expensive? I dont think that Freak Dog resembles anything manufactured By Best!

See the bars section on freakdog.

See Vicous on section on freakdog.

Pause 14 seconds on freak dog.
Pause 2:23 on best.

They look alot alike i'm not saying exactly but similar you gotta admit. The cheezy chicken loop on the freakdog throw's it out of bounds.
