harness mod?

Made any good modifications to your kites?... Lets discuss it.

harness mod?

Postby lewmt on Tue Oct 02, 2007 5:21 am

I have the North seat? harness which has the straps that go around the thighs & buckle into the harness. When the wind is fairly strong those straps definitely want to cramp me nuts....ideas or mods to fix this? I'm old enough they aren't so useful any more but its pretty distracting & kinda painful.

I used to use a seat harness and the key that I found is making sure that it cinched good and tight so it doesn't move around at all. I can tell you if it isn't tight then oh can it hurt. Hope this helps.

I agree with NE_kiter. You need to have the harness straps good and cinched down so they don't move on you.

I tried really cinching it yesterday & the wind was ripping pretty good....still got me. I'm thinking of putting another plastic snap(female side) much lower down & around the leg. Any reason not too? Looking at it - it seems like that ought to keep those straps down below the pain induction point

Putting another buckle on shouldn't be a problem, as long as it isn't going to be a weight bearing point. You don't want to have to worry about it coming apart and falling from a boost. I will also call NORTH today and see if they have had any other people asking about this issue and what they did to fix it.

Glad to hear that you are getting out and riding. I hope it is coming easier each time. I haven't done much riding lately with getting ready for winter and winter events.

I think this is part of using a seat harness they ride up on you, but a waist harness is can be far more painful especially to the sternum area. Most of the time I don't have this problem until boosting alot. What i do is actually adjust in a neutral or side lower position on the kite then i take one hand and push down on the harness. Another thing that helps is a bit of a beer belly (hehe) it can't ride as quickly up if there is something stopping it. I have the north performer harness its one of the most comfortable harnesses i've tried. I have a wipika and a DaKine harness and they ride too. The Wipika not as bad and the DaKine storm is a little bit uncomfortable cause of the lack of back support.
I love the wind and I love getting HIGH on air.
