United States Riding Spots

Postby vandal on Wed Nov 07, 2007 12:01 pm

This will hopefully be the ultimate guide for places to ride in various states across the United States. Help me fill in places to ride in your state! You can use Google Earth to find the location and link it to Google Maps for people that want directions to it. Just reply in this post and I will add them to the list. If you are not sure about the exact location just say the name of the area and we will find it eventually. (To make a degree symbol hold alt and type 0176 on the keypad part of the keyboard, then let go of alt.)

Ferry access from Honeymoon Island
To reach the ferry dock on Honeymoon Island, take US Highway 19A(Alternate 19) from Dunedin to Curlew Road (Florida Highway 586). Follow signs to the park. There is plenty of space on the ferry boat for your gear, coolers and anything else you may want to bring.

Fort DeSoto Park :
and on google map

East Beach : Latitude: 27.6361
Longitude: -82.6995

Shallow water for a couple hundred yards out so it is very flat. Best at Mid to high-tide. At low tide you'll be riding in 3` of water or a dry bed of grass and muck. Beginner to advanced area. Make sure to check the tides if you are going to be riding at East Beach here as the water level goes down too low at East Beach during low tide. Wearing shoes is helpful.
The strong winds come in the winter and are frontal, so not really predictable. A nice seabreeze comes in during the spring and fall, but summer has very light winds. This is one of the most popular riding spots in the area for NE, E, SE and S winds.

Big Beach : Latitude: 27.6256
Longitude: -82.7378

Tends to get choppy and disorganized on SW winds. The north end near the point is shallow. The south end closer to the pier is deeper with strong currents. The middle of the cove is great. Stay away from the pier due to biggers fishes. Beginner to advanced area.
The strong winds come in the winter and are frontal, so not really predictable. A nice seabreeze comes in during the spring and fall, but summer has very light winds. Best on NW and SW winds.
Be respectful to tourists on the beach if the seasons overlap, but usually winter is kiting season and the beaches aren't very full. The beaches can get really crowed with sunbathers and swimmers during the spring and summer months. Avoid Mid-day on sunny weekends. After 5 pm the crowds are mostly gone. Watch out for stone crap traps, your lines can get tangled in the buoys.

North Beach : Latitude: 27.6464
Longitude: -82.7439

Usually small waves (2 to 3 feet), some areas are very shallow so you can get flat water and some small surf at the same time. DO NOT RIDE at north beach unless you are an advanced level rider. The inlet can get busy with boat traffic and bull sharks. For experienced riders only!
The strong winds come in the winter and are frontal, so not really predictable. A nice seabreeze comes in during the spring and fall, but summer has very light winds.

Kitespots in Bozeman
the corner of Fort Ellis Road- and Kagy Blvd.....
the corner of Kagy Blvd and Teayobeshockup.....

These spots are state land, and the easiest and best place to go without hassles! Its about four minutes from campus east of town! I dont have google earth on this particular computer. So I cannot Give the Cordinates. These two spots are individual parcels of land, about a quarter mile from one another but you can kite up and down the ditches to get to each respective spot on your kite. Which is a pretty cool thing to do when you are kiting. There is a small hill on the Fort Ellis spot, and some irrigation ditches that provide jibbing and boosting opportunities. You will find kiters here mostly on weeknights after work. We kite till its too dark to kite any more! 8-)
