New beginner kites for family?

Postby northidahokiter on Fri Oct 26, 2007 1:32 pm

Last week I let my dad take my Slingshot B-3 down to cali for a trip to meet his Brother. Long story short, Im in cahrge now of getting my uncle and his friend 2 nice foil kites, preferably about the same as the B-3, or preferably a good deal on two B-3's. Now to stick with the rules of the forum, and not start a brand war or have any ads, I would appreciate anyones deals that they might have in my inbox, not posted. Of course any positve comments towards specific smaller kites are always welcome.Thanx

Pretty much any beginner kite made by any company would probably work. The first kite I ever flew was a 10m ozone frenzy in light winds. Basically I learned how to steer the kite and feel the drag a little bit. After a while I went kiting in increased winds and stuck with the frenzy for a while. I have flown a North buster and have seen many beginners get up and rind with them no problem. I have also ridden the ozone access which was similar to the frenzy without the boosting power.

If you are set on getting foil kites I would have to recommend access or frenzy (they can ease into it) as these are pretty much the only foils I have flown. Although if you can find a better deal on a different brand of foils I would probably take it as they pretty much all fly the same as far as I can tell from other riders experiences.

Are they going to ever try water? If so you might want to look into lei kites. The foil kites don't work so well in water if you drop them :P

I am sure you will get a few PM's from the kite sellers on here. They get have some pretty good deals usually.

Hey Vandal, thanks for your input. As I am a beginning snow/water rider and am toatally set for gear, these guys are a couple of older laid back dudes and are pretty much interested in the kites for the shear fun of flying. So Im really looking for something down around the 3-5 meter range. As for the Ozones, I bought my dad an Access for his birthday and look forward to flying that as well as the frenzy and manta, once the season gets in full swing. Thanks again vandal.
